Conclusion..... :-)

There are many contributing factors to achieve effective teaching.

  • Learning will not take place in a single way communication, yet communication can only be built and reinforced in an environment where respect, mindfulness and cheerfulness exist.
  • Effective teaching needs to be highly interactive and should vary  depending on the needs of each learner (D.H.Linda & John Bransford)
    • Teachers themselves must have the passion and be enthusiastic in sharing their knowledge to their students in a creative way so that effective learning takes place. Effective teaching is not merely to deliver a lesson to audience but is to help learners to become independent learners themselves
  • Intangible skills that students learn from their teachers is more important than knowledge
  • Teachers must be skillful in recognizing and identifying problems in student’s learning and come up with developmentally appropriate solutions specific to each learner in order to help them become confident and passionate in learning.

  • Gay (Personal Communication, 2004) :suggested that effective teaching is sensitive to students’ needs and backgrounds and should be viewed as a creative act.
    • Teachers must constantly and consistently evaluate themselves from self-reflection and from feedback of others so that they can develop essential skills in helping them teach better and more effectively.
    • Student assessment and evaluation from observation will further help teachers to ascertain their teaching effectiveness. These feedback system where appropriately used will be a central part of the effective learning environment.
  • Another important factor of effective teaching is to engage students to explore and experience by themselves.
    • Teachers are to be responsive rather than to spoon-feed the students. Theoretical learning is not as effective as hands-on learning.

  • Teacher must always connect the lessons to the real world in order to make the teaching more effectively.
    • An effective teacher will explore ways to best deliver her lessons so that student will learn and internalize the concept which they can use them to problem solve more challenging task.

Creating an effective physical classroom environment

Creating an effective physical classroom environment  is important:

  • The physical environment reflects the expectations of the teacher of how the room should be used.
  • Well-organized classroom can stimulate learning, help building a classroom community and will help students to be self-motivated, disciplined and responsible

Physical conditions to consider:
  • Cleanliness, light and temperature of the room.
  • Bulletin board, white board display
  • Seating arrangement
  • Learning areas depending on the grade to teach
  • Adequate and organized places for students to put their belonging
  • A calendar
  • Plants to make the classroom more welcoming

Large classes present a number of difficulties for example:

  • Learners are not sure of the purpose of the instruction
  • They don’t have the opportunity to read widely
  • They can’t get help from the educator to support independent work
  • There is a lack of opportunity for discussion
  • The educator has difficulty motivating the learners
